Painting

I enjoy playing with the music and rhythm of colour, its interaction, to evoke a sense of place, of time, of pattern and landscape. To draw and paint is to amalgamate energy, to interpret and treat experience whether seen, felt or heard. It is a statement of connection to being within the environment.

My practice is rooted in the classical principles of painting and drawing, bringing attention to the energetic nature of mark making, colour contrasts and juxtapositions within the picture surface, questioning ideas of composition and highlighting media sources. The nature of abstraction and relationship to narrative elements creates a space for the imagination and hints at a more spiritual dimension to the work. Each piece may be seen as an environment, the elements of which form its ecology, interacting to create its energetic symbiosis. However, as with all true ecological studies, the pieces bare relationship to other pieces of work, to the environment in which they are seen and created, and to the contemporary condition as a whole.

The imagery explores the spiritual and visual implications of quantum theory on a personal and emotional level, drawing parallels with the imagery and intentions of earth based aboriginal cultures from across the world. I am presently seeking contemporary spaces to exhibit my work.
